Dr Alexa Zhang
Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Alexa Zhang is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in neuropsychiatry and neurodevelopmental disorders. She graduated from Imperial College London, where she was awarded a Distinction in Medicine in her final MBBS examinations, before completing Foundation Training in Oxford and higher specialist psychiatry training in London, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square), the Tavistock Centre, St Mary's Hospital, University College London Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.
Alongside her clinical work, Alexa remains actively involved in research and medical education. She has authored several first-author peer-reviewed publications and continues to collaborate with Great Ormond Street Hospital and the University of Cambridge Autism Research Centre. She was awarded the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry Best Trainee Poster Prize in 2020, has been a Research Supervisor for the UCL Child and Adolescent Mental Health MSc programme, and holds a SEDA-accredited Certificate in Developing Teaching and Learning in Medical Sciences from the University of Oxford.
Originally from Singapore, Alexa volunteered with children with learning disabilities long before she became a doctor. She can also conduct clinical assessments in Mandarin. By taking the time to get to know each child and their family, she aims to build a picture that helps families understand not only what is happening, but why. Whether or not a diagnosis is reached, she believes that a thoughtful assessment should leave families with a clearer understanding of their child and practical recommendations to support them moving forward.
